Manifestation of infrared instabilities in high-energy processes in non-Abelian gauge theories.

چکیده
We show that a high frequency standing wave in SU(2) gauge theory is unstable against decay into long wavelength modes. This provides a nonperturbative mechanism for energy transfer from initial high momentum modes to final states with low momentum excitations. The Abelian case does not manifest such instability. Our analysis is supported by lattice simulations. PACS: 03.50.Kk,11.15.Ha Typeset using REVTEX On leave from Yerevan Physical Institute, Armenia, 375036

Revival of Non-abelian Monopoles and Confinement in Qcd
Non-Abelian monopoles in spontaneously broken gauge theories have remained a rather obscure object for some time now. Apart from the often discussed applications in conformally invariant N = 4 theories few field theory models were known where such objects play an important role. A class of N = 1 theories exhibit well-known Seiberg’s duality; the origin of the “dual quarks” however remains somew...

The one loop effective potential for a non-Abelian gauge configuration is analyzed using the background field method. The Savvidy result and the non-Abelian ansatz, the other alternative possible background that generates a constant color magnetic field configuration, are compared. This second possibility is very interesting because it avoids the possible coordinate singularity, DetBa i = 0, an...
متن کاملInfrared regularization of non-Abelian gauge theories
Curci and Ferrari found a unique BRS-invariant action for non-Abelian gauge theories which includes a mass term for the gauge bosons. I analyze this action. While the BRS operator is not nilpotent, the Zinn-Justin equation generalizes in a simple way so that the renormalization of the theory is consistent with the infrared regularization provided by the mass—infrared singularities and ultraviol...
متن کاملGauge link structure in quark–quark correlators in hard processes
Distribution functions in hard processes can be described by quark–quark correlators, nonlocal matrix elements of quark fields. Color gauge invariance requires inclusion of appropriate gauge links in these correlators. For transverse momentum dependent distribution functions, in particular important for describing T -odd effects in hard processes, we find that new link structures containing loo...
متن کاملObservables and Gauge Fixing in Spontaneously Broken Gauge Theories
Gauge fixing and the observable fields for both abelian and non-abelian gauge theories with spontaneous breaking of gauge symmetry are studied. We explicitly show that it is possible to globally fix the gauge in the broken sector and hence construct physical fields even in the non-abelian theory. We predict that any high temperature restoration of gauge symmetry will be accompanied by a confini...
